We are the only supplier of Caradon Cornish Granite. This stone, known for high durability and beautiful colour hues, has been quarried on Bodmin Moor since at least the mid 1800s.

We aim to produce this product as sustainably as possible. We use only the previous quarry workings so very little energy is required to win the material from the ground; the stone is cut using 100% renewable energy, and our water system recycles quarry water throughout the cutting process.

CORNISH TRADITIONAL STONE MEETS CONTEMPORARY NEW BUILD

Lower Linney stands as a newly constructed bungalow on the periphery of Dartmoor, South Devon, replacing a pre-fabricated chalet that once occupied the site. Upon entry, traversing the central spine corridor reveals the expansive main kitchen and living space. This open-plan area boasts a vaulted, twisting ceiling and is embraced by a vast wall of glass overlooking a central courtyard garden of our granite stone—a key requirement for the client, offering natural seclusion amidst urban surroundings of trees and hedgerows.

A refined palette of black, white, and grey threads its way through the dwelling from exterior to interior. Siberian Larch weatherboards and Japanese ‘Shou-Sugi-Ban’ Charred Larch cladding create a striking contrast between the main volume and the master bedroom wing. White marble porcelain tiles within the house reflect light, extending seamlessly into the courtyard to blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, shaping a cohesive garden ‘room’.

The zinc roof with an intricate twisting surface, lending height and drama to the primary living area above the expansive glazed wall. This mono-pitched roof design culminates in a bespoke triangular window at the end of the living space, offering a tantalizing view of the surrounding trees. An impressive 11-meter run of sliding doors opens up the living area completely to the courtyard garden, facilitated by a single bespoke steel girder that eliminates the need for any columns.

Lower Linney stands as a remarkable exemplar of contemporary architecture within Dartmoor National Park—characterized by clean lines and thoughtful design that maximizes the site’s potential, creating a secluded oasis within its urban context.
