Welsh Slate, renowned for its unparalleled quality and craftsmanship, stands as a premier slate with a history just as storied as Cornish slate. This walling material is highly sustainable, having been made from material left over from historic roofing slate production. The unique “nipped” finish with its strong horizontal cleavage planes sets it apart from similar grey Cornish slates.
WELSH SLATE STONE MEETS MODERN COASTAL RETREAT
Set in the heart of bustling Port Isaac, Gwel Arvor is a sea-view holiday home perfectly situated within the picturesque fishing village; nestled amidst the rugged and magnificent scenery on Cornwall’s Northern coast.
Caradon Stone supplied natural faced Welsh walling stone to meet the brief for muted grey and neutral textures. The stone matches remarkably well to the weathered bedrock of the nearby coast. The use of natural slate stone allows the home to mould into its hilltop setting, with its party walls on either side framing the wonderful sea view.
This natural slate is especially durable, perfect for the severely exposed location. Our thanks to J Orchard Construction for producing such a wonderful example of coastal living.
Natural slate cappings have been used to weatherproof the walls and further enhance the natural grey tones of the walling stone. These capping stones
A beautiful alternative to Cornish slate where the location requires the most durable finish, or where darker, more muted tones are desired above the more vibrant and rustic hues of natural Cornish slate.
